Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byun Chang-heum held an online emergency briefing at the government office in Seoul on the afternoon of the 4th, and responded to the allegations of preliminary speculation of land in the new cities of Gwangmyeong and Siheung by some employees of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). I apologized.

He said, “Something unpleasant has happened in the agency that runs the public development project,” he said. “As the minister in charge of the relevant affairs and as the head of the agency who ran the agency just before, I deeply apologize to the people.” I lowered my head.

Minister Byeon said, “We have initiated a full investigation of allegations of speculation raised in the 3rd new town targeting employees of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and public institutions and local governments related to housing site work.” I will take strict measures in accordance with the laws and regulations such as measures,” he explained.

In addition to the existing six new cities, the scope of the speculation suspicion investigation is a total of eight sites, including the Gwacheon District and the Ansan Jangsang District, which are medium-sized housing sites, with an area of ​​more than 100m2. Minister Byeon said, “If you see the results of the survey for other districts and think that it is necessary to further investigate even small housing sites, we will decide whether to add them.”

Regarding the countermeasures to prevent recurrence, he stressed that “we will strictly limit real estate transactions for the officials in charge, not for actual residence purposes, and make it mandatory to report real estate transactions.” In addition, he said, “We will thoroughly investigate so that the trust of the people can be restored,” and “We will announce the results and measures to prevent recurrence in the near future.”

Regarding the concern that there may be adverse effects on the implementation of existing real estate policies such as the 2·4 supply plan, he said, “I am sorry for the part where the reliability of the public sector has lost a lot,” and “we plan to proceed without a hitch.”
