In a witness newspaper in the’Jung In-i case,’ in which a 16-month-old adopted child died due to abuse of her adoptive parents, the head of the daycare center testified that after two months, the head of the daycare center saw Jeong In-i, who had been absent for a long period of time, and that she was thin like starvation and thought that another baby had come.

On the 17th, the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court held a second trial date for the mother-in-law of Yang, who was convicted of murder and child abuse and fatality, and the mother-in-law, who were charged with child abuse and abandonment.

“The child who was cheerful and bright at first appearance”

The head of the daycare center, Mr. A, said, “I was a cheerful (nature), cheerful (looking) and bright child,” and “I was growing well for my age.”

However, he said that from mid-March, bruises were found on the upper body of Jeong In-i’s face, neck, and arms every two or a half weeks.

Mr. A said, “Jeong-in called her adoptive mother and asked why she was hurt,” and said, “(Jang) sometimes did not know. Most of them said that she was hurt because of bumping and falling.” He added, “The average child has a wound once or twice a year,” he added.

“In May, after confirming that there were bruises on Jung In-i’s thigh and stomach, I called Jang, and Jang said,’My adoptive father was bruised by doing baby massage on the weekend.'” “I was worried about the report for a long time, but first I reported it to a specialized child protection agency.”

“Jeong-in took her to the hospital and was protested by her adoptive parents”

Unlike her real daughter, Jung In-i has not attended the daycare center for about two months from the end of July. Unlike her older sister, Jang said to Mr. A that the reason Jung In did not come to the daycare center was’due to the risk of corona 19 infection.’

Mr. A said, “Jeong-in, who came back to the daycare center after two months, has changed unknowingly,” he said. “He was as thin as an African hunger, and his legs trembled so badly that he could not stand properly.”

“I was concerned about the health of the child, so I took him to the hospital, and the pediatrician’s teacher reported the abuse,” he said. “However, contrary to expectations, Jung In was not separated from the family.’He took him to the hospital without a word.’ I got it.”

On October 12, 2020, the day before his death, Jeong In-yang, who visited the daycare center, was unable to move by himself. Among the children who play actively, Jung In-yang was held in the arms of the teacher all the time, and the appearance of being droopy remained on the closed circuit (CC) TV.

Mr. A testified that “Jung-in seemed to have given up everything that day,” and said, “Even if I gave him a favorite snack or toy, he did not show any reaction.” He said, “Jeong-in’s body was dry, but only his stomach was convex, and there was a red bruise on his head,” he said. “Even if I gave a baby food, I couldn’t eat it at all and spit it out.”

Jeong In-i’s death was investigated as abdominal damage such as pancreatic rupture caused by a wide and strong external force applied to the abdomen and excessive bleeding.

Proving the adoptive parents’ murder intention is key

Meanwhile, at the first trial held last month, the prosecution applied for a change of the prosecution against her adoptive mother, Jang, as a preliminary prosecution against murder and child abuse death as a preliminary prosecution. Demonstrating the intentionality of the murder is the key to proving the murder charge.

Jang’s side maintains that he died by accidentally dropping Jung In-yang, insisting that there was no intention of killing.
