“Tesla Model Y out”..Ioniq 5, price and indoor space competitiveness↑

[이데일리 송승현 기자] It will compete directly with Tesla Model Y by releasing the first model Ioniq 5 to which the exclusive electric vehicle platform is applied. It is evaluated that Ionic 5 has an advantage in price and space utilization competitiveness, and Model Y has an advantage in performance.

On the 23rd, Hyundai Motor Company held the’Ioniq 5 World’s First Release’ event online. Ionic 5 is expected to compete head-to-head with Tesla, which reveals its unrivaled presence in the electric vehicle market. Among them, Ioniq 5, which was released as a mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, is expected to compete directly with Tesla Model Y.

Indoor space size and utilization Ioniq 5 won overwhelming

Compared to Model Y, Ionic 5 has a comparative advantage in that it has a wider indoor space and high space utilization through a dedicated platform E-GMP. Ionik 5’s wheelbase is 3000mm, which is a big difference from Model Y’s 2890mm wheelbase. It is generally accepted that the longer the wheelbase, the larger the interior space.

Above all, the biggest feature of IONIQ 5 is the’Universal Island’ located in the center console of the existing internal combustion engine. The Universal Island can be moved backwards up to 140mm, so it can utilize up to 2nd row passengers. In addition, if a two-row electric sliding seat that can move up to 135mm forward is used, the interior of the IONIC 5 can be changed into a space for rest, work, and leisure.

Standard range model Y ‥Ioniq 5 price competitiveness↑

In terms of price, Ioniq 5’s overwhelming victory. In line with the government’s subsidy policy, Model Y set the price of the standard range, the lowest trim, at 59.9 million won. However, on the 21st, orders for the Model Y standard range worldwide were completely suspended. Accordingly, only the long range (69.90 million won) and the performance (79.90 million won) can be selected for the selectable trim in Model Y. Electric vehicles over 60 million won can only receive 50% of the government subsidy (up to 6 million won).

On the other hand, Ioniq 5 is expected to form a price range of △exclusive in the early 50 million won range and △prestige in the mid 50 million won range by long-range trim. The Ionic 5 Long Range Exclusive Trim can be purchased at a price in the upper half of 30 million won if you receive a subsidy.

Recharge ability’Long-term’ Ioniq 5 wins, currently Model Y’Victory’

In the electric vehicle charging speed, Ioniq 5 is expected to dominate in the long term. The world’s first 400V/800V multi-fast charging system, which can use various charging infrastructures, is applied to IONIQ 5. With 350kW super-fast charging, it is possible to drive up to 100km by charging 80% of the battery capacity within 18 minutes and charging for 5 minutes. However, the place where ultra-fast charging is possible is virtually impossible to use as the only cat at Hyundai Motor Studio. This is why the model Y’s charging system is said to be better until Hyundai Motor’s electric vehicle infrastructure is established.

Tesla is equipped with 182 electric vehicles-dedicated rapid charging equipment’super chargers’ at 33 charging stations nationwide. When the slow charging facility’Destnation Charger’ is combined, Tesla’s exclusive charger reaches about 800 units. In particular, the supercharger supports up to 120kW speed, so it takes 1 hour to charge 80%. Furthermore, this year, additional ultra-fast’V3′ chargers with 250kW speed will be additionally installed in 27 locations nationwide. The new charger can drive 120km with a 5-minute charge.

Maximum mileage model Y’Highest win’, driving performance model Y’Judge win’

In terms of performance, the evaluation that Model Y is generally ahead is dominant. First, Model Y leads the way in terms of mileage. The model Y long range has a maximum driving distance of 511km based on domestic certification. On the other hand, Ionic 5 is only 410 to 430 km in the case of a long-range rear-wheel drive model based on Hyundai Motor Research Institute’s own measurement. It is said that the maximum driving distance between the two models can vary by up to 100km.

However, it is a variable that Ionic 5 introduced a heat pump system to reduce power waste in winter. The heat pump system uses waste heat generated from electric components such as drive motors for indoor heating to minimize battery power consumption, thus minimizing the reduction in the distance available for a single charge.

The driving performance is the decision of Model Y. The combined maximum output of the IONIC 5 all-wheel drive is 306 horsepower and the maximum torque is 61.7 kgm. It takes 5.2 seconds from a standstill to 100km/h based on Hyundai’s measurement. On the other hand, the combined maximum output of Model Y is 384 horsepower and the maximum torque is 51.2 kgm. It takes 5.1 seconds from standstill to 100km/h. Hyundai Motors is ahead of the maximum torque, and Model Y is slightly superior in the zero-back aspect. However, Model Y’s performance trim boasts an overwhelming performance with a maximum output of 462 hp, a maximum torque of 68.7 kg·m, and a zero back of 3.7 seconds. Model Y performance also has a domestic standard of 448km, which is ahead of Ioniq 5 in terms of mileage and driving power.
