The government’s plan to subsidize eco-friendly vehicles (electric vehicles and hydrogen electric vehicles) this year was announced on the 21st.

It is noteworthy that this year’s Tesla Model 3 long-range government subsidy has been significantly reduced compared to last year.

The amount of government subsidies for electric vehicles this year is up to 7 million won, down 1 million won from last year. If each vehicle meets the standards for performance subsidies (500,000 won) and energy efficiency subsidies (500,000 won) set by the government, it can receive up to 8 million won.

The implementation subsidy is the basis when manufacturers achieve the government’s 2020 supply target. The energy efficiency subsidy is based on the ratio of the mileage for a single charge at a low temperature versus room temperature.

The government initially decided not to pay subsidies for electric vehicles with less than 60 million won, 50% of the total subsidy for models with more than 60 million won and less than 90 million won, and not for vehicles with more than 90 million won.

The vehicles that can receive the highest government subsidy of 8 million won as of the 21st are Hyundai Kona Electric (including vehicles equipped with a heat pump and vehicles without a heat pump) and Kia Niro EV equipped with a heat pump.

Renault Zoe (ZOE) will receive 720,000 won, GM Korea Chevrolet Volt EV will receive 7.6 million won, and BMW i3 120Ah model will receive 3.41 million won.

The electric car Peugeot e-208 imported by Hanbul Motors receives KRW 6.49 million, the DS Crossback E-Tense receives 6,500,000 KRW, and the Peugeot e-2008 receives 6,500,000 KRW.

The Tesla Model 3 receives less subsidies than other competing EV models.

The Model 3 Standard Range Plus model receives 6.84 million won, the long range is 3.41 million won, and the performance is 3.29 million won.

All Tesla Model S trims, Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes EQC 400, Audi e-Tron 55 Quattro, etc. will not receive subsidies this year. Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model X were not included in the grant application list from the start.

In the first place, the government set a vehicle price standard for subsidy payments excluding VAT in the administrative notice of the electric vehicle subsidy business handling guidelines.

The government recently announced an administrative notice, including VAT in the vehicle price standard for subsidy payments, by collecting opinions from the discussion meeting held with the Korea Imported Vehicle Association and the Korea Automobile Industry Association.

Hyundai Motors’ hydrogen electric vehicle Nexo will receive a government subsidy of 22.5 million won this year.

This year, the government’s target for supply by local government is 70,000 electric vehicles and 15,000 hydrogen electric vehicles.

The government is planning to provide differential subsidies to local governments. In the case of Seoul, up to 4 million won is possible now, but different payments may be made depending on the vehicle sales price.

The policy of the subsidy payment plan announced by the government may be changed in the future.

If manufacturers, including Tesla Korea, lower their vehicle sales prices, they can receive higher subsidies for electric vehicles than the government proposed.

The Ministry of Environment’s plan announced that day did not include subsidies for Hyundai Motor Company’s Ioniq 5, Kia CV, and Tesla Model Y, which are scheduled to be released this year.
