Reuters reported on the 3rd that Taiwanese prosecutors applied for an arrest warrant for the suspect who appears to have caused a train accident that killed more than 50 people on the first day of the Qingming Day holiday.
The suspect is a construction site manager who drove a truck known to have entered a train track, Reuters said.
On the morning of the 2nd, the first day of the Qingming Day holiday, a passenger train carrying 490 people broke off the track, and several cars hit the tunnel wall, and at least 50 people died.
The train left the capital city of Taipei and headed for the eastern coastal city of Taitung, where an accident occurred in a tunnel north of Hualien.
According to Reuters, the accident is the worst disaster in Taiwan in 70 years. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-won is scheduled to visit Hualien, where the accident took place on the 3rd, to meet the victims of the accident. The Taiwanese government decided to hoist it for three days as a sign of condolences.
