Taeyoung Construction, industrial safety supervision after death in Gwacheon·Guri

The industrial safety authorities intensively supervise the Taeyoung E&C headquarters and the entire site. The purpose of this is to improve the industrial safety discipline at construction sites of construction companies where industrial accidents are frequent ahead of the enforcement of the Severe Disaster Punishment Act in January next year.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 22nd that it will conduct occupational safety and health supervision for Taeyoung Construction headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul and construction sites nationwide.

The reason is that the risk of additional accidents is high due to the high possibility that the recent death accidents occurred at the Taeyoung Construction site every month and the safety management system was poor. In January, a worker was killed by a pile of concrete at the Taeyoung construction site in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, and in February, a worker was killed by H-beams at the construction site in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do. On the 19th of this month, a worker crashed into a concrete pump car support and died at the Taeyoung Construction Site in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do. Workers died in 2019 and last year at the Taeyoung Construction site.

Earlier last month, the Ministry of Employment and Employment announced a policy that construction companies that experienced serious accidents such as industrial accidents and deaths consecutively in 2019 and last year will supervise the headquarters and construction sites nationwide even if only one major accident occurs this year. Taeyoung Construction is the first case in which this policy has been applied.

In particular, the Ministry of Employment is planning to intensively check whether the headquarters has properly implemented safety measures for subcontractors, considering that all workers who died in accidents at the Taeyoung Construction site this year belong to subcontractors. The construction site of the knowledge industry center in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do, where the fatal accident occurred on the 19th, will be supervised by the Central Regional Employment and Labor Administration.

An official from the Ministry of Employment said, “A construction company that has suffered a fatal accident for two years in a row will be judged as poor safety management, and will be inspected by the head office and national site supervision and special supervision of the accident site.” The intention is to establish a safety and health management system.”
