Daejeon Mayor Hur Tae-jeong once again emphasized the need for’Daejeon-Sejong integration’, saying, “In order for Sejong to become a complete administrative capital, Daejeon Sejong must be integrated.” Mayor Huh proposed the integration of Daejeon and Sejong in July of last year.
Mayor Heo attended the New Year’s press conference held in the briefing room of Daejeon City Hall on the morning of the 13th, saying, “I talked about the theory of integration between Daejeon and Sejong last year. I also told you the importance of megacity.”
“At the end of last year, four metropolitan governors in the Chungcheong region gathered together to sign an agreement for the establishment of a mega city, and they also discussed how to achieve this. The project of connecting Daejeon Metro Line 1 to Sejong and establishing a wide-area railway network was also planned. They agreed,” he argued, “Now we need to strengthen not only transportation infrastructure but also economic cooperation.”
He also said, “In the future, Daejeon and Sejong will move forward one by one as an economic community. Furthermore, we will create a free economic zone in the Chungcheong area, and through this, we will actively promote projects that lead foreign companies’ investment.” In addition, Daejeon promised that Sejong would not spare any support for becoming an administrative capital in name and reality.”
“We will do our best to achieve the status as a complete administrative capital through not only the relocation of the National Assembly but also the relocation of the Blue House. However, the completion of the administrative capital is possible through the integration of Daejeon and Sejong. Daejeon City will make every effort to integrate and build megalopolis in the Chungcheong area.”
Mayor Huh said, however, that this integration between Daejeon and Sejong is possible only with sympathy for the future and citizens’ consent between the two regions. In addition, in order to create such a consensus, it was suggested to prioritize the connection of the Daejeon Metro Line 1 and the use of local currency.
On that day, Mayor Heo also suggested that the vision for the city administration of Daejeon in 2021 is’Daejeon, the center of innovation and growth in Korea,’ and expressed his New Year’s determination to take care of the lives of the people for’the daily life of citizens laughing.
First of all, he said, “Last year, we were able to overcome the crisis thanks to the citizens who showed a mature citizenship while enduring the daily inconvenience and economic damage caused by Corona 19.” We have solved the clues of our long-awaited projects such as development projects, and secured the future growth engine of Daejeon City by attracting start-up parks and solar energy company joint utilization research centers.”
In particular, he cited the’designation of an innovative city’, which had been longing for 15 years,’designation of mandatory recruitment of local talents’, and’issuance of wars all over local currency’.
Mayor Heo said, “This year, under the values of fairness, win-win, and inclusiveness, we will do our best to recover the people’s livelihood so that the daily lives of the citizens will come to a smile by overcoming the crisis.” Daejeon, the scientific capital of the Republic of Korea in name and reality, will lead the nation’s innovative growth and balanced development.”

The specific details of the project are ▲ Supply of 10,000 Dream Towns (~2030) ▲ Creation of 100 national and public daycare centers (2022) ▲ Conversion to Daejeon Medical Center and construction of financial projects ▲ Residents’ Association (composed of 79 buildings by 2025) ▲ Residents Expansion of participation budget (50 billion won by 2025) ▲ Issuance of all Daejeon (1.3 trillion won in 2021) ▲ Job discovery (150,000 won by 2025) ▲ Daejeon-type New Deal Fund (1 trillion won by 2025) ▲ High-tech industrial complex ( 630,000 pyeong) ▲ Creation of a walkable Cheonri Road (by 2030) centered on the three rivers ▲ Daejeon, Sejong Free Economic Zone, and public animal complexes.
Finally, Mayor Heo said, “Now, it is time for the 7th civilian election projects that we have been working hard to bear fruit, and this year, we will do our best to help citizens experience the results of the current projects.” I will take care of the people’s livelihood directly,” he added.
On the other hand, mayor Huh, who answered the question, asked,’Do you have a plan to pay for disaster support during the war?’ “The government currently provides 9,3 trillion won to support the 3rd disaster support fund, but some places are in blind spots. There is a plan to provide “tweezers support” for these people with their own budget.”
He added, “In addition, as the corona crisis is expected to continue for the time being, it is expected that the national disaster subsidy will be needed once more, and Daejeon City is also reviewing the timing and form of the disaster subsidy,” he said.
