In the days of the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations, former secretary-general Choo Seon-hee, a conservative group of Korea Parents’ Union, was confirmed on charges of holding a’control rally’ with funding from the National Intelligence Service (violation of the National Intelligence Service Act, etc.).

The first division of the Supreme Court (Presiding Judge Kim Seon-eun) announced on the 18th that it has confirmed the trial court sentenced to 10 months in prison for Mr. Chu, who was recently accused of violating the National Intelligence Service Act and violating the Assembly Demonstration Act, defamation, and blackmail.

The court sentenced it in this way, saying, “There is no fault in misunderstanding the laws of centrifugal judgment beyond the limits of libertarianism, abuse of the right to prosecution, or the establishment of a violation of the NIS Act.”

Regarding the part that Mr. Chu appealed for being excessively sentenced, the court said, “It is not applicable because a sentence that is lighter than the reason for appeal stipulated in the Criminal Procedure Act was sentenced.

Earlier, Mr. Chu served as the secretary-general of the conservative parental association and was accused of supporting the NIS’ political intervention activities, receiving up to 5 million won per month from the NIS from 2010 to 2013.

Led by Mr. Chu, the Parents’ Alliance held a rally to condemn Rep. Song Young-gil and Park Ji-won, who made criticisms of the government regarding the bombardment of Yeonpyeong Island in 2010, or held a rally to criticize CJ Group, which broadcasted a political satire program in 2013, as a “left-leaning company”. . Chu was also accused of extorting 22 million won from CJ Group on condition of stopping the assembly in front of the headquarters.

In this regard, the first trial judged that the blackmail was not guilty and the rest were guilty, and sentenced Chu to one year and ten months in prison and four years of probation, but the appeal trial also convicted of blackmail and arrested Mr. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison for violating the National Intelligence Service Act, 1 year and 6 months in prison for defamation and blackmail, and 3 years probation.

The Court of Appeals said, “Chu’s deep involvement in the NIS’ illegal political involvement at the expense of compensation is of great importance.”
