The government will invest 600 billion won over the next five years to promote regional specialization projects related to materials, parts, equipment (small manager), bio, and Korean New Deal.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 4th that from this year to 2025, it will carry out more than 70 projects of’Smart Specialization Infrastructure Construction Project’ through local innovation agencies, and that it will support approximately 600 billion won in national expenditure.

The smart specialization infrastructure construction project reflects the characteristics of the region to reinforce regional industrial capabilities or transforms the regional flagship industries facing crisis into new industries.

56 strategic industries specialized for each region (4 for each city) are selected by comprehensive consideration of regional industrial development needs and national industrial development strategies, and the establishment of a platform linking industry-academia-research institutes and equipment, equipment expansion, technical support and expertise Support manpower training, etc.

The Ministry of Industry, first of all, will proceed with public offerings and new evaluation committees from this day to the 8th of the following month for the 23 new planning tasks for 2021 selected last year for about 140 billion won.

Afterwards, it is planned to select an implementation organization at the end of March.

The 23 tasks consisted of 8 small directors, 8 bios, 4 digitals, and 3 greens.

The project period is 3 years from this year to 2023, and 5 to 10 billion won is provided for each project.

The Ministry of Industry is planning to select around 25 new projects in 2022 with a scale of 160 billion won by April.

Regional Economic Policy Officer Kim Hyun-cheol of the Ministry of Industry said, “Through this project, we will build an industrial ecosystem infrastructure to strengthen regional industrial competitiveness, which is directly connected to balanced national development and industrial development.”
