Expansion of 500,000 chargers and 450 hydrogen charging stations by 2025

The government will supply 7.85 million eco-friendly cars by 2030 and build 450 hydrogen charging stations by 2025 to reduce automobile greenhouse gas emissions by 24%.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy confirmed the ‘4th Basic Plan for Eco-friendly Vehicles (2021-2025)’ containing such details at the State Council on the 23rd.

The eco-friendly vehicle basic plan is a basic plan established and implemented by the Ministry of Industry every five years according to the Eco-friendly Vehicle Act.

First of all, the government plans to supply 2.83 million eco-friendly cars by 2025 and 7.85 million by 2030 with the goal of reducing automobile greenhouse gas emissions by 24% by 2030.

To achieve the goal, public institutions are required to purchase 100% of eco-friendly cars, and private eco-friendly car purchase target systems such as rental cars and large companies are introduced.

In the case of chargers, the number of chargers will increase to more than 500,000 units, which is more than 50% of the number of electric vehicles supplied by 2025, and 450 hydrogen charging stations will also be built by 2025.

In addition, it plans to secure price competitiveness of eco-friendly cars by lowering vehicle prices by over 10 million won by 2025 through the establishment of a dedicated platform and localization of parts and materials.

In order to achieve carbon neutrality, we will also review ways to reflect the GHG assessment throughout the entire cycle in the automotive GHG standards.

In addition, in order to create a carbon-neutral industrial ecosystem, the government decided to convert 500 parts companies by 2025 and 1,000 parts companies by 2030 into future cars.

To this end, the Future Car New Deal Fund (200 billion won), a new R&D dedicated to business restructuring, and training of 21,000 people by 2025 will be promoted.
