OCI signed a contract to supply polysilicon worth 930 billion won.
OCI announced on the 8th that the Malaysian subsidiary, OCIMSB, has signed a polysilicon supply contract with LONGi Green Energy Technology in China, worth 850 million dollars (about 930 billion won). The supply period is until February 2024.
This contract is OCI’s large-scale supply of new polysilicon, which has been made in 3 years since 2018. The contract amount amounts to 35% of OCI’s 2019 sales.
OCIMSB plans to increase the scale of production by about 5000 tons by expanding the Malaysian plant that currently produces 30,000 tons per year. The company explained that it has secured a stable distributor of polysilicon produced in this plant.
In the industry, countries around the world are expected to begin construction of solar power generation facilities in earnest from this year. This is because the US Biden administration promised to expand investment in renewable energy, and major countries such as Europe, Japan and Korea are increasing investment in renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality. BNEF, a research institute specializing in renewable energy, estimated the size of the world’s new solar power generation facilities to be over 151GW this year. It is an analysis that it will grow more than 15% from last year.
OCI President Kim Taek-joong said, “As the global solar market enters a growth trend, customers are increasingly purchasing OCIMSB’s high-purity polysilicon.” Said.
