An employee of a transportation company was confined and evacuated to a hospital, but died while loading parts of a nuclear reactor facility (RVI) produced by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in Changwon onto a trailer.

The stricture accident occurred on the 8th, and an employee of a transportation company (KCTC) died that evening. The facility is 6m high and weighs more than 100 tons.

A KCTC employee who was picking up this part with a crane and putting it on a trailer vehicle was trapped by laying a wooden pallet under the part to prevent slipping.

The parts were produced by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, and the trailer transportation work was carried out by signing a contract between the client, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and a transportation company. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s cranes were mobilized for the loading truck, and some employees worked together.

After the accident, the Changwon Employment and Labor Office issued an order to suspend the operation of cranes and trailers in Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, and is conducting an investigation to find out the cause and responsibility.

In the meantime, the National Metal Workers’ Union held a press conference in front of the front door of the Changwon Employment and Labor Office on the 10th and demanded an’expanded order to suspend work’.

The metals union urged “Ministry of Employment and Labor to expand the scope of work suspension to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s entire heavy-duty handling work” and “Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to conduct thorough supervision and safety and health check-ups for the entire workplace.”

An official from the Changwon Employment and Labor Office said, “We ordered Doosan Heavy Industries to stop the loading of cranes and trailers, and we will determine the entire work of heavy objects through a general investigation.” After conducting an investigation, we will be able to determine the cause and whereabouts of responsibility.”
