The Federation of Banks announced on the 27th that it will promote social distancing from bank branches from the 28th.

This is a reinforcement measure targeting customer waiting spaces (passengers) and office spaces (windows) in branch offices in accordance with the government’s’special quarantine measures for the year-end and New Year’s.

In the waiting space, it was decided to limit the number of waiting customers to 10 or fewer, and to maintain a sufficient distance by sitting in a space. For customers who cannot enter due to the limited number of people, a’customer waiting line’ will be displayed at the entrance of the branch and guided so that the distance between customers can be maintained at least 2m.

As for the work space, the possibility of infection between customers and employees or counseling customers is prevented as much as possible by expanding the installation of partitions, and if partition installation is difficult, the distance between counseling customers is to be maintained at least 2m (at least 1.5m).

If sufficient distance cannot be maintained due to space constraints in branches, some counters are also being actively considered. For example, there are 5 counters in operation, but if the distance between consulting customers is less than 1.5m, counters 2 and 4 are closed and only counters 1, 3 and 5 are operated.

These measures are being promoted to strengthen quarantine, taking into account the recent spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and the possibility of increasing financial demand during the year-end and New Year holidays. Individual banks maintain the basic principles, but implement them flexibly according to the situation of each branch.

In addition, the financial industry employers’ council and the nationwide financial industry labor union plan to continue to discuss measures for quarantine at branches.

Bank Federation Chairman Kim Kwang-soo said, “For everyday banking business, we hope that you will use non-face-to-face channels such as the Internet as much as possible.” We ask for your understanding.”
