Strengthening cooperation in energy fields such as Korea and UAE and hydrogen

Looking for future-oriented directions for industries and technologies in the era of carbon neutral

[투데이에너지 송명규 기자] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Sung Yun-mo) and the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT, Minister Al-Jaber) held the’Korea-UAE Industry and Energy Cooperation Forum’ on the 4th. It signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation and Industrial Technology Cooperation, and discussed ways to cooperate in the field of renewable energy such as hydrogen and industrial and technological cooperation for digital innovation and transformation.

This forum aims to explore future-oriented cooperation plans between the two countries, a special strategic partnership, and a ministerial-level interview, a CEO roundtable, and a breakout session were held.

At the ministerial level, the two countries discussed ways to expand and strengthen cooperation between the two countries beyond the traditional cooperation such as nuclear power plant construction and oil and gas.

Minister Sung Yun-mo said, “Korea is actively pursuing the’Korean version of the Green New Deal’ such as establishing a hydrogen roadmap and enacting the world’s first hydrogen law, and the UAE is also working to realize the energy plan 2050. I look forward to it.”

In addition, with this’hydrogen economy cooperation MOU’, the two countries prepared opportunities for hydrogen economy cooperation, such as sharing hydrogen trade systems and policies, establishing cooperation channels between hydrogen economy promotion support systems, and strengthening related technical cooperation as partners in the carbon neutral era.

The two ministers also discussed industrial and technological cooperation measures for digital innovation and transformation.

Minister Sung Yun-mo said, “The two countries have exemplarily cooperated to overcome Corona 19, such as facilitating the entry of mutual entrepreneurs and quarantine, even under difficult circumstances last year. Based on this successful cooperation, “Let’s cooperate with digital economy fields such as AI and e-learning and fostering creative SMEs such as startups.”

On this day, Korea and the UAE also signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in industrial technology policy, which is expected to contribute to vitalizing cooperation in various industrial fields by establishing a channel for cooperation in industrial technology policy between the two countries.

At the CEO roundtable that followed, CEOs from 9 companies, including GS Energy, Korea National Oil Corporation, and H2KOREA, attended to discuss corporate strategies for carbon neutral and hydrogen economy transition, while more than 170 experts and entrepreneurs from both countries participated in AI and new energy. Thematic workshops were also held to discuss promising areas for cooperation between Korea and UAE.

The Ministers of the two countries agreed that this event was a meaningful occasion to re-examine the achievements of bilateral cooperation and to seek new opportunities for future cooperation.
