The city of Busan announced on the 3rd that it will begin construction of the central bus lane (BRT) for a 7.9km section from Gwangmugyo in Seo-myeon in Busanjin-gu to Chungmu-dong in Seo-gu from this month.

This section aims to open at the end of this year.

Busan City predicts that if the BRT is opened in this section, the bus speed will increase from 12% to a maximum of 28.3%.

When the BRT between Seomyeon and Chungmu is completed, the BRT with a total length of 24.9km including Dongnae-Haeundae (10.4km) and Dongnae-Seo-myeon Gwangmugyo (6.6km) will be completed.

The city plans to complete the construction of the Seomyeon-Jurye (5.4km) section by 2022.

When the BRT between Seomyeon and Jurye is completed, a BRT transportation network connecting the east, west, north and south of Busan city will be established.

The city plans to switch to a people-centered public transportation system through the BRT transportation network.

Busan Mayor Lee Byung-jin said, “We ask for the citizens’ understanding as it is expected that traffic congestion will occur due to the control of some lanes due to the construction of the stop,” and “I will complete the construction as soon as possible.”

As a result of the’BRT Citizen Satisfaction Survey’ of 1,000 Busan citizens in December of last year, 62.3% of respondents said they were satisfied, 22.6% of’normal’ and 15.1% of’complaints’.
