“A lot of training in Busan and Jeju Island…I will achieve good results”
“I was embarrassed to hear the news of the sale of SK Wyverns, my mother’s team… at first I couldn’t believe it”

Kim Gwang-hyun (33) of the St. Louis Cardinals in the MLB of the US announced that he worked hard to strengthen his stamina for his first full-time appearance in the big league.
Kim Gwang-hyun said through his agency on the 10th, “After returning to Korea, I did exercise focused on physical strength training in Busan,” and “After moving to Jeju Island, I mainly did pitching and technical training.
He added, “When I played in the KBO League, I played 144 games, but the MLB system was 162 games,” he said. “Because I needed more physical strength, I made a routine with training coach Heo Jae-hyuk and trained for strength reinforcement.”
Kim Gwang-hyun played full-time last year, the debut season of the big leagues, but the MLB league itself was held in a shortened season of 60 games due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), and many games could not be played.
The 2021 season, which is held with a 162 game system, is expected to be a year of challenge for Kim Gwang-hyun.
Kim Gwang-hyun has trained a lot during this off-season to reinforce the physical fitness problem that was considered a weakness when he was in the KBO League.
In Busan, he trained with training coach Heo Jae-hyuk and physically focused on training, and on the 3rd, he moved to Seogwipo, Jeju, where the spring camp of SK Wyverns, the parent team, was held to continue the training.
Kim Gwang-hyun, who trained with his family members by the 10th, plans to move to Seoul to prepare for departure.
He leaves for the United States through Incheon International Airport at 9:45 am on the 12th and joins the St. Louis Club Spring Camp.

Kim Gwang-hyun also raised expectations regarding St. Louis’ off-season power-strengthening moves.
He said, “Adam Wainwright, who received a lot of help last season, has renewed a contract with St. Louis,” he said. “I was a senior who thought I would like to work out more together.”
He said, “Nolan Oryu Nado is a good hitter that Ryu Hyun-jin (Toronto Blue Jays) is the most afraid of, but it will help a lot.”
Kim Gwang-hyun also expressed his honest feelings about the SK team, the parent team, which was recently decided to sell to Shinsegae Group E-Mart.
“When I first heard of the sale, I thought it wasn’t true.
“It was embarrassing.”
He added, “SK is a team that has been playing for 13 years, and I think that I can continue to be a baseball player because they gave me full support.”
Kim Gwang-hyun urged, “I hope that the Shinsegae Group, who will be in charge of the SK club in the future, will play a big role in the development of Korean baseball.”
