[스포티비뉴스=잠실, 김민경 기자] The infield reinforcement was completed with Doosan Bears recruiting Kang Seung-ho (26) and Park Gye-beom (24) as reward players.

Doosan chose Park Gye-beom as the reward player for first baseman Oh Jae-il (4 years 5 billion won) who transferred to the Samsung Lions on the 22nd. On the 18th, Kang Seung-ho was recruited as a reward player for second baseman Choi Joo-hwan (4.2 billion won in 4 years) who transferred to SK Wyverns. ‘Young infielder blood transfusion’ was moved as the top priority to fill the gaps that the two main infielders fell into at once.

Park Gye-beom and Kang Seung-ho have the strength of being able to play in various positions in the infield. Park Gye-beom can be used as shortstop, second baseman, third baseman and even first baseman, and Kang Seung-ho is used as second baseman and shortstop. The first requirement for Doosan infield backup priority is utility capability. Both players met that condition.

Park Gye-beom’s defense, and Kang Seung-ho’s batting were a little more appreciated for their potential. A Doosan official explained, “Park Gye-beom was a popular player because he had a good defense. His batting average this year is around 10% (0.195), but his batting is a problem that can be compensated for if he continues to play. His base base ability is also above average.” Regarding Kang Seung-ho, he said, “Compared to Park Gye-beom, I think the long hitting power is superior.”

This does not mean that Park Gye-beom’s hitting potential is lowered. “The wrist strength is good. It is difficult to say that it is a mid-to-long range hitter, but we also considered hitting bigger than the physique (178cm, 72kg).”

Park Gye-beom and Kang Seung-ho are also right-handed hitters that Doosan lacks. Most of the recent Doosan hitters were left-handed hitters. Only right fielder Park Gun-woo, third baseman Heo Gyeong-min and shortstop Kim Jae-ho were right-handed hitters. It is true that Kim In-tae, the number one pinch hitter, was also a left-handed hitter, so he continued to have thirst for a right-handed hitter. A Doosan official said, “Even though both players are right-handers, the problem was behind the scenes. We first considered the players who would use the most when coming to our team.”

Doosan is preparing for an infield rebuilding centering on third baseman Heo Gyeong-min, who signed a contract for 8.5 billion won for 4+3 years on the 10th. Infielders in the early and mid-20s, including Hwang Kyung-tae, Seo Ye-il, Kim Min-hyuk, Oh Myung-jin, Park Ji-hoon, and Ahn Jae-seok, are expected to compete fiercely. It is expected that Gye-beom Park and Seung-ho Kang will join to increase the tension.
