However, it is expected that this syringe will be used for the initial vaccination after the company announced its intention to donate about 120,000 syringes to the government.
Yang Dong-gyo, head of the Resource Management Team of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Group, said at a briefing on the 20th, “The contract to purchase the’minimum residual type (LSD) syringe’ produced by Poonglim Pharmatech has not been signed.”
“As this syringe issue arose, we decided that it was very necessary and important to secure such a minimal residual syringe early. “Since last January, we have been grasping the current status of domestic manufacturers.” “After such a process, we signed a supply contract with two domestic companies on January 26th. In this process, not because Poonglim Pharmatech was intentionally excluded, but considering the fact that Poonglim Pharmatech was not equipped with a mass production system at the time, the contract was not signed.”
Poonglim Pharmatech imported and sold medical devices and started developing LDS syringes last year to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). According to the company, it received requests to purchase 260 million syringes in 20 countries, including Japan, and was approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
However, it is not used for domestic vaccination. This is because the government has already completed a contract to purchase the necessary syringes.
Yang said, “There are two major syringes that we use for this year’s COVID-19 vaccination. These are LDS syringes and regular syringes. On the 26th, about 40 million units of LDS minimum residual syringes have been signed and supply is starting. General syringes were also bidding through the Public Procurement Service in early January,” he said. “We plan to purchase 40 million LDS syringes and 40 million general syringes.”
When asked, “Will all Poonglim Pharmatech syringes be exported?” Yang said, “We haven’t confirmed in detail about the parts that are exported first, so there is no word to tell.” However, Poonglim Pharmatech has not signed a contract with us now, I know that the will to be helpful in quarantine or vaccination is very strong. In this regard, the intention to donate about 120,000 syringes has been revealed, so it is expected that it can be used for the (domestic) initial vaccination.”
Earlier on the 18th, President Moon visited Poonglim Pharmatech in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do with government officials such as Kwon Chil-seung, Minister of Small and Medium Venture Business and Kim Gang-rip, head of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, to monitor the production status and encourage employees.
