A former U.S. swimmer who was arrested for joining the congressional intrusion of US President Donald Trump’s supporters belatedly shed tears of regret.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 18th (local time) that Clit Keller, 38, the Olympic double crowner, who was charged with the federal prosecutor’s office, was apologized for crying over a phone call with a gift during college.

Mark Schubert, who led the swimming team at the California State University, said, “Keller repeated’I’m sorry to disappoint.'”

Keller is a swimmer who won two gold medals in relay after participating in the Olympics in Sydney in 2000, Athens Olympics in 2004 and Beijing Olympics in 2008.

He was arrested after it was confirmed that he was confronting the police wearing a national team jacket with’USA’ inscribed at the scene of the congressional riot on the 6th.

Keller did not explain why he participated in the intrusion of the Congress, but it is known that he personally experienced a difficult time after the national team retired.

In an interview with NBC Sports in 2014, he regretted not retiring after winning a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

I had the opportunity to major in criminology at Arizona State University, but eventually retired in 2008 after joining the national team for four more years.

However, both work and marriage were not smooth. After the divorce, I lived in a car without a home for a while.

It is known that after he got a job at a real estate company in Colorado, he was able to live a certain level of stability, such as reuniting with the children raised by his ex-wife.

In an interview at the time, Keller also said, “After dark times, I finally found the light.”

The process or motive for Keller’s becoming an intense Trump supporter has not been confirmed. However, acquaintances explain that he has revealed his participation in the Trump support rally through his SNS a few years ago.

Keller was fired from a real estate company after a picture of his intrusion into the Capitol was released, and was charged with three charges, including interfering with public affairs.

Some argue that Keller’s Olympic medal should be deprived.

John Urbanchek, the manager of the US swimming team, said, “Keller got along with the wrong crowd, and at the wrong time he went where he shouldn’t go.”
