The Korea-Japan national football match is an eternal big match between the two national football worlds. Whenever the two teams come together, both countries are noisy. However, from some point onward, meetings stopped. In particular, pure evaluation matches, except for meetings at international competitions, have completely disappeared since 2011. This is because both countries have developed soccer and promoted the evaluation game centering on strong players in Europe and South America rather than Asia.

This Korean-Japanese football will play an evaluation match in 10 years. The Korea Football Association announced on the 10th that it has agreed with the Japan Football Association to hold a friendly match for the Korea-Japan national team at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, Japan on the 25th. As the second qualifying round of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, scheduled to be held at the end of March, was postponed due to the aftermath of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the schedule of the national teams of both countries became vacant at this time, and a meeting using this time was concluded.

The friendly match A with Japan was the last match in Sapporo, Japan in August 2011. At that time, Korea lost a big 0-3. Since then, Korea has been competing four times in the EAFF E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup), recording 2 wins, 1 draws and 1 loss. Korea’s overall career record against Japan and Korea was 79 with 42 wins, 23 draws and 14 losses. Even if we count only the games held in Japan, we also lead by 16 wins, 8 draws and 6 losses in 30 matches.

KFA Secretary General Jeon Han-jin said, “It is time to check the national team’s performance ahead of the 4 matches of the 2022 Qatar World Cup Asian 2nd qualifiers to be held in June and the final qualifiers of the World Cup starting in the second half.” Considering such things, it was decided to actively utilize the valuable A-match period. “We have already sent an official request for cooperation to the Europeans and are discussing it, and we plan to request cooperation for self-isolation, etc. from the K-League team.”
