Songpa-gu, Seoul (Gu Seongsu Park) announced on the 16th that it has identified an otter, a natural monument No. 330 and a first-class endangered species, in Seongnaecheon, an urban ecological river in Songpa Dulle-gil.

Songpa-gu reported that the identification of otter individuals was conducted through a three-month distribution survey conducted by environmental groups such as Seongnaecheon otter guard and social cooperative Han River, conducted for three months from the end of last year to the beginning of this year.

The research team installed unmanned cameras around the main stream of the Han River, Jungnangcheon and Cheonggyecheon, Godeokcheon, Seongnaecheon, and Anyangcheon, and found traces of otters inhabiting Seongnaecheon, a tributary of the Han River.

Songpa-gu explained that there are also mallards, white-cheeked black ducks, and great egrets in Seongnaecheon.

Songpa-gu plans to continuously improve the living environment by collecting plastic and styrofoam from Seongnaecheon, preserving existing trees and bushes as much as possible, removing installed concrete blocks, and planting hydrophilic plants.

Park Seong-su, head of Songpa-gu, said, “The ecological value of Seongnaecheon as a habitat for various creatures is proven by the confirmation of otters.” Said.
