Seo Kyung-deok, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, expressed concern over the recent appearance of a Chinese company’s bibimbap product as an indirect advertisement (PPL) in a Korean drama.

Professor Seo said on his Facebook page on the 16th, “In the tvN drama’Vinsenzo’,’Chinese bibimbap’ appeared as a PPL.” Revealed.

“Recently, China continues to argue that kimchi, hanbok, and pansori are’the culture of their own country’. I think it was aimed at promoting the product,” he said.

At the same time, he feared that “bibimbap in a disposable container written in Chinese may cause misunderstandings of Chinese food to overseas viewers.”

The scene in question came from episode 8, which aired on the 14th. The scene where the protagonist Song Joong-gi (played by Vinsenjo) eats instant bibimbap was depicted, and the surface of the product was written in Chinese. It was in the form of’Korean bibimbap’, but it was known as a product of the Chinese company Zhai Guo.

Such a scene became controversial as the recent controversy over the kimchi process in China, coupled with the heightened cultural conflict between Korea and China. In particular, criticism continues as cases in which the Chinese PPL is a problem continue in popular Korean dramas such as’The Goddess Advent’.

Meanwhile, Professor Seo, who has raised the issue of Chinese cultural distortions, recently complained that he suffered from Chinese netizens’ e-mails, direct messages (DMs), and comments.

Professor Seo said, “We are being attacked tremendously with profanities that are difficult to put in our mouths through e-mails and social media messages.” He pointed out that it can be seen as a’crooked patriotism’ stemming from a sense of crisis.
