The wife of Ulsan Mayor Song Chul-ho bought the forest in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do in 2009 through the so-called’split split’ method, causing controversy.
Song market side “is not for speculation purposes”
According to the city of Ulsan on the 17th, Hong Mo, 68, the wife of Mayor Song, purchased a part of the forest in Pyeongchang-ri, Yang-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, for 59.2 million won through a real estate agent.
At that time, a real estate brokerage company sold the forest to a total of 91 people, including Mr. Hong, by splitting their shares. Two years later, the lot was divided into nine, and one of them is jointly owned by 10 people, including Mr. Hong. Hong’s stake is 393㎡ (about 118 pyeong) out of the total 3504㎡.
This area is a blind land with no roads around it. SK Hynix is planning to establish a semiconductor cluster by 2024 in Wonsam-myeon, which is 4km away from Yangji IC of Yeongdong Expressway and 10km away. Mayor Song reported the value of the land at 9.27 million won, reflecting the publicly announced price, when the property was disclosed last year.
Mayor Song said that at the time the land was purchased, it was not in politics, and it was never purchased for speculation. Mayor Song retired from politics in 2009 and was working as a lawyer in Ulsan. Mayor Song returned to politics in 2011 and was elected Mayor of Ulsan in 2018.
An official from Ulsan City said, “It is the land that Mayor Song’s wife reluctantly purchased the land at the request of a student when she was a nursing professor.”
