[SNS세상]When I ate raw meat and went to the hospital… an 18m long parasite came out from the boat

A parasite over 18m was found in the stomach of a Thai man who visited the hospital because of a stomachache.

On the 24th, according to a British Daily Mail report, on the 19th, a man in his 60s living in Nong Khai Province, Thailand, visited a hospital with severe abdominal pain. Hospital medical staff, who were unable to find the cause of various tests, took samples of the patient’s stool and sent them to the Parasite Research Center.

As a result, 28 parasite eggs were found only in male stool samples. The hospital prescribed an antiparasitic repellent to men, and one day after taking the drug, the man was able to discharge the parasites from the stomach through feces.

Surprisingly, the taenia saginata contained in the male body was over 18 meters long. The Thai Parasite Disease Research Center said, “The parasite was so large that it took a long time to put it on the floor,” he said. “It appears to be the longest parasite found in Thailand in the past 50 years,” said a spokesperson for the center.

The reason males are infected with parasites is because they usually enjoy eating raw meat. Common tapeworms are often caught by eating raw beef. The man confessed, “I ate raw beef dishes more than once or twice a month.” Hospital medical staff advised men to change their eating habits in the future to avoid parasitic infection.

Schawana Rattanappitun, a doctor who was in charge of the patient, said, “We believe that the patient’s family may also be infected with the parasite and suggest additional tests.” He said, “It is not difficult to get rid of parasites because there are many good medicines, but it is better to stay away from raw meat that can be infected with parasites,” he said.
