A man working at Buckingham Palace in England, who secretly stole items from the royal family and sold them to an auction site, was sentenced to prison.

The BBC and Telegraph reported that the court sentenced Adamo Canto, 37, to eight months in prison, accused of stealing more than 100 royal items.

Can Tho is a man who has been working as a kitchen assistant at Buckingham Palace since 2015, and has been found to have stolen royal items since November 2019. The royal investigation team announced that they had recovered a significant amount of stolen items from Can Tho’s lodgings.

Among the items Canto stole included a photo album of US President Donald Trump’s visit to England, a photograph with the duke’s signature, and medals of British officers and commanders. The stolen items are worth up to £100,000 (about 148.37 million won), the BBC said.

Can Tho has sold 37 of his stolen items on eBay and has earned 7,741 pounds so far. In particular, he is known to have stolen and sold the Samsung phone of the Duke of York, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Samsung Z Flip, stolen by Canto, was custom-made for the Duke of York, but sold for a bargain price of £600 (about 890,000 won) on eBay, auction site. Can Tho stole most of his belongings from palace shops and royal rooms, as well as stealing from staff lockers, Queens Gallery, and warehouses. Can Tho was given an additional task to clean Buckingham Palace following his kitchen assistant, allowing him to freely enter and exit the palace.

Can Tho’s theft ended when he was arrested by the police on the 4th. Can Tho stated that he had stolen something to pay off a debt caused by not paying interest on a mortgage loan.
