Smart watches and fitness trackers can play an important role in early detection of Corona 19, foreign media such as Engadget reported on the 18th (local time).

Researchers at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the U.S. have discovered that smartwatches can detect subtle changes in heart rate caused by COVID-19 infection.

The researchers found this by analyzing the data after having 297 healthcare workers wear an Apple Watch equipped with a special app that measures heart rate changes (HRV) from April 29 to September 29 last year. .

Dr. Robert Heerten, the author of the paper, said, “The smartwatch showed a significant change in HRV measurements up to 7 days before testing for COVID-19 with a cotton swab.”

A similar study has been published at Stanford University in the US According to the study, 81% of participants wearing various smart watches or fitness trackers such as Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple had a change in heart rate up to 9 days before the onset of Corona 19 symptoms.

One of the most difficult aspects of the Corona 19 virus is that many people are asymptomatic even if they are infected with the virus, but it is highly contagious. Therefore, it is difficult to control the virus infection through traditional methods of identifying and quarantining a person with Corona 19.

“Developing a method to identify infection before knowing that you are infected will actually be a breakthrough in managing COVID-19,” he said. “Through this technology, we can not only track and predict whether or not people are infected, “You can intervene remotely in a timely manner during the pandemic that should be there,” said Dr. Robert Heerten.

NeuTigers, a spin-off artificial intelligence (AI) company at Princeton University in the U.S., introduced a technology called CovidDeep that can check for corona 19 infection with a wearable device. This technology detects the initial symptoms of Corona 19 by measuring the wearer’s body temperature and heart rate using a coin-sized electronic device. Accuracy is known to be over 90%. The company will develop its own apps that can work with smartwatches such as Apple and Fitbit.

Woof smart band introduced by US Professional Golf (PGA) (Photo = Woof)

Currently, the US Professional Golf (PGA) is requiring players to wear a smart band named WHOOP. Nick Wotney, who was infected with Corona 19 last year, felt that his body was weird before a golf game, and it is known that the band he was wearing at the time played a big role. He said that the smart band informed him of an increase in breathing count per minute, and that he began to suspect that he may have had Corona 19.
