While the Georgian state government of the U.S. requested President Joe Biden to exercise the veto to the International Trade Commission’s (ITC) ban on the import of SK Innovation batteries, it indicated that LG Energy Solutions could take over the factory of SK Innovation.
According to AJC, a local media in the United States on the 12th (local time), it is reported that Jonghyun Kim, the president of LG Energy Solutions, sent a letter containing the same information to Senator Rapier Warnock on the 10th.
In a letter, President Kim said, “LG Energy Solutions is ready to do anything to help Georgia residents and workers.” You can also participate,” he said. He said, “As the demand for electric vehicle batteries increases, many investors and manufacturers will be interested in the plant.”
As the contents of the letter are announced, there is also a prospect that Georgia may be included as the area for LG Energy Solutions to build a new factory. LG Energy Solutions announced that it plans to build more than two battery production plants by investing more than 5 trillion won in the United States on the 12th Korean time. The plant candidates are scheduled to be announced in the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp asked President Joe Biden to veto the International Trade Commission’s (ITC) ban on the import of SK Innovation batteries.
According to the state government of Georgia on the 12th local time, Governor Kemp sent a letter to President Biden, claiming that “SK’s factory exactly meets Biden’s goals and could find thousands of jobs.”
Governor Kemp explained in a letter that SK’s electric vehicle battery plant, which will be built in Commerce, Georgia, will employ 2,600 people in the future. He also emphasized that the 2.6 billion dollars (about 2,954.9 billion won) that SK invested to build the factory was the largest foreign investment ever in Georgia. “The SK plant will be the only one built without federal subsidies among the major electric vehicle battery plants in the United States,” said Governor Kemp.
Governor Kemp also noted that SK will expand its plant by 2025, increasing its employees to 6,000. “SK plant plans to increase battery production to 50 GWh (gigawatt hours) per year,” he said. “I said.

“SK’s factory exactly fits President Biden’s goal of’converting the US automobile industry to electric vehicles and providing local workers with high-income and decent jobs’.” Next, referring to the fact that President Biden recently issued an executive order to look into the supply chain for electric vehicle batteries to reduce’dependence on China’, when SK’s factory is closed, “the US is lagging behind China in the electric vehicle battery competition. I will give birth,” he insisted.
Governor Kemp also emphasized that former President Barack Obama had overturned the 2013 ITC decision. At the time, former President Obama overturned the ITC’s decision to ban the import of Apple products that infringed Samsung Electronics’ patents.
Earlier last month, ITC ordered SK to ban the import of some lithium-ion batteries for 10 years, claiming that SK has violated the battery trade secrets of LG Energy Solutions (formerly LG Chem’s battery business unit). However, in order to minimize damage to automakers contracted with SK, it also decided to postpone the import of Ford and Volkswagen batteries and parts for production in the US for a certain period of time.
