SK Incheon Petrochemical, a subsidiary of SK Innovation, is committed to achieving’Green Balance 2030′ and strengthening ESG (environment, society, governance) management, which aims to zero out adverse environmental impacts by 2030 based on eco-friendly innovative technologies accumulated so far. It was revealed on the 23rd.

SK Incheon Petrochemical plans to achieve ESG in the petrochemical business through innovative technologies such as △ eco-friendly tank cleaning △ intelligent wastewater treatment solution. Through this, it creates social value by solving environmental problems and at the same time makes it a new growth engine for the company.

‘Eco-friendly tank cleaning’ is a technology developed for the first time in the domestic petrochemical industry by SK Incheon Petrochemical. It has accumulated know-how and the latest oil content in operation of oil storage facilities accumulated so far to dramatically reduce waste and maximize crude oil recovery and recycling. Retrieval technology was applied.

Through this technology, sediment (sludge) such as oil, water, and debris inside the tank can be removed. Previously, sludge was taken out of the tank and separated into oil, water, and waste, but this method was environmentally vulnerable due to the mixture of oil and waste due to low treatment efficiency.

However, by improving the technology, the amount of recovered crude oil can be increased more than three times compared to the existing one, and some wastes can be converted to renewable fuel oil and used as an energy source, creating economic value. In addition, it is eco-friendly, as the amount of waste generated is reduced by about 70%.

‘Intelligent Sewage Water Treatment Solution’ was jointly developed last year by SK Incheon Petrochemical and a domestic university through industry-academia cooperation, and is a new eco-friendly sewage and wastewater treatment technology that combines the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and microbial DNA-based diagnostic technology. .

This technology provides an integrated solution for the entire treatment process, from the inflow and discharge of sewage and wastewater, such as △artificial intelligence (AI)-based microbial image analysis △high-efficiency microbial culture and DNA-based diagnosis △Sewage and wastewater treatment facility remote management system. .

Through this, the efficiency of sewage and wastewater treatment is improved by more than 20% compared to the previous one, and energy costs (power costs, etc.) are expected to be reduced by about 10-15%, attracting attention as an eco-friendly technology using microorganisms. SK Incheon Petrochemical decided to make it an eco-friendly business model by verifying the commercialization of this technology and establishing an intelligent system for public sewage treatment plants.

SK Incheon Petrochemical President Choi Yoon-seok said, “We will continue to secure eco-friendly innovative technologies to create social values for solving environmental problems, develop eco-friendly new growth businesses, and strongly implement Green Balance 2030.” I will be a model.”
