SK Hynix has completed the new DRAM plant’M16′. It has been 25 months since construction started in November 2018. 3.5 trillion won was invested, and DRAM with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology is produced. From the second half of the year, the 4th generation 10-nano class (1a) DRAM is expected to be made.

On the 1st, SK Hynix announced that it had held the M16 completion ceremony at its headquarters in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. The completion ceremony was held on this day with the theme of’We Do Technology Opening Happiness’. It was a simple event within the group to comply with the COVID-19 prevention regulations. SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won, Senior Vice Chairman Choi Jae-won, SK Supex Pursuit Council Chairman Cho Dae-sik, SK Hynix Vice Chairman Jeong-ho Park, SK Hynix President Jang Dong-Hyun, SK Hynix CEO Lee Seok-hee, SK Hynix Senior Outside Director Ha Young-koo, and SK Hynix senior non-executive director, 16 people attended at the site. Employees participated in the event untouched through video connection.

Chairman Tae-won Choi said, “When we said that we were building the M16 two years ago when the semiconductor economy was on a downtrend, there were many voices of concern. It made me dream of,” he said. He said, “M16 is the completion of the big plan the company has drawn up and will remain an important symbol as a starting point for the Yongin cluster in the future.”

Chairman Choi also said, “As many people have helped in the process of the birth of M16, M16 will now contribute to their happiness.” In terms of improving the governance structure (ESG), please look for various possibilities.”

Construction of the M16 began in November 2018. It was completed in 25 months with a total of 3.5 trillion won and 3.34 million people involved in the construction workforce. M16, which will mainly produce DRAM products, has a building area of 57,000 square meters (17,000 pyeong) equivalent to eight soccer fields, and is 336 meters long, 163 meters wide, and 105 meters high, reaching the 37th floor of an apartment. It is the largest of SK Hynix’s domestic and overseas production facilities.

SK Hynix explained that the completion of the M16 is meaningful in that it is an early achievement of the’future vision’ announced at the completion ceremony of the M14 in Icheon in 2015. At the time, the company announced plans to build three new fabs in Korea, including M14, within 10 years from 2014 to secure continued leadership in the semiconductor industry. After that, the M16 was completed this time following the Cheongju M15 in 2018, completing the future vision three years earlier.

In addition, the company expects M16 to play a leading role in implementing’Financial Story’. SK hynix announced its financial story vision last October to focus on creating SV (social value) and ESG management while enhancing the overall competitiveness of the memory semiconductor industry with both wings of DRAM and NAND. It was decided to start the implementation in earnest from this year, and the completion of the M16 is expected to be the starting point.

CEO Lee Seok-hee said, “M16 is a complex manufacturing facility where cutting-edge infrastructure such as an EUV-only space and advanced pollution reduction facilities are gathered.” Will be.”
