For SK Energy’s employee Lim Tae-gyu, online games are hwasoobun that creates positive energy.

Online games that you enjoy after work are both a way to find work and a vital element in your work.

As non-face-to-face has become commonplace due to the influence of Corona 19, more people are looking for a hobby that can be enjoyed at home.

Employee Lim Tae-gyu is also overcoming the changed daily life with online games.

Online games have the advantage of being able to enjoy social distancing at a relatively low cost compared to other hobbies.

One of the reasons employees enjoy playing games is that they can chat online and spend time together without having to meet in person through free calling programs such as Skype.

Lim Tae-gyu, an SK Energy employee, said, “The World Health Organization (WHO), which was negative for games such as categorizing game addiction as a disease, recently joined hands with global game companies and launched a’Play Apart Together’ campaign, which means’Let’s play together again.’ He said, “It is interesting that we recommended the game as a play that can be enjoyed at home in the era of pandemic.”

He explained, “As work and hobbies are thoroughly separated, life has become much more diverse.”

Employees who are interested in games, including employee Lim Tae-gyu, enjoy several games at their homes after work, relieve work stress, and have time to recharge while sharing unsatisfied stories.

Employee Lim Tae-gyu said, “If you want a fun life, it’s good to have a hobby that suits you.” Even a little unplanned and spontaneous attempt can add vitality to a tiring daily life and increase work immersion, enabling a true work experience.”

Employee Lim Tae-gyu’s unique career as a former professional gamer plays a part in gaining positive energy through the game. Lim Tae-gyu was a pro gamer of’StarCraft’, a strategy simulation game.

In 2005, Tae-gyu Lim, at the age of 16, prepared for a professional gamer by living in a camp with amateurs.

‘In the early days of my camp life, I went to a PC cafe contest once a month. The result was a series of eliminations”.

In the process, for Lim Tae-gyu, the game became a goal beyond fun. It was because I learned that it would be difficult to make a professional gamer debut if it was not desperate.

Employee Lim Tae-gyu made a life plan and devoted himself to practice and strategy research for more than 15 hours a day.

Lim Tae-gyu’s fierce tenacity was proved as a result after two months.

He won the’Curridge Match’, which selects StarCraft Junpro. In 2007, he became a professional gamer of his dreams by passing the test for joining the professional game team one after another.

As a pro gamer, he has devoted his talent and passion while playing for 6 years in StarCraft Pro League and Individual League.

However, after 2012, as the entire e-sports stagnated, employee Lim Tae-gyu decided to retire as a professional gamer.

I totally liked the game so I became a pro gamer, but I realized that the game as a karma and the game as a hobby are different.

When Lim decided to take a new path, his father, who was in the field of electricity, gave an unexpected direction.

After retiring as a pro gamer, Lim devoted himself to his studies for four years, and in 2016, he joined SK Energy.

Tae-gyu Lim, who opened his second life, is currently in charge of experimentation and product and semi-finished product management in SK Energy’s Quality Management Unit 1.

Lim said, “I am most happy to have a psychologically stable life free from the pressures of gender competition. “The habit of making builds, such as game strategy planning and play order as a pro gamer, helped me a lot in prioritizing my work.”
