SK energy and Seoul City to declare’zero carbon emissions by 2050′

SK Energy is the first oil refining industry to join hands with the city of Seoul to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In July last year, the city of Seoul declared ‘2050 carbon neutral’ and is promoting policies to supply new and renewable energy and eco-friendly vehicles. Jong-Hoon Oh, CEO of SK Energy’s P&M CIC, said, “This is a voluntary public-private partnership model promoted by companies and local governments. Through this, we will accelerate ESG management to improve eco-friendly, social responsibility, and governance.” SK Energy and Seoul City jointly propose to the central government to improve regulations that prevent the supply of eco-friendly energy, and plan to carry out a regulatory sandbox (regulation suspension) project together.

Through reorganization last month, SK Energy introduced a company growth system (CIC) based on the existing oil refinery business and eco-friendly platform business. In November of last year, SK joined the RE100 Committee to certify that it will procure 100% of the electricity used by companies at the group level with electricity generated through eco-friendly renewable energy. Jung Soo-yong, head of the Seoul Climate Environment Headquarters, said, “There will be great progress in the expansion of the charging infrastructure for eco-friendly vehicles in Seoul.”
