On the 18th, when Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong, who was implicated in the Gukjeong Nongdan case and handed over to the trial, was sentenced to imprisonment at a repatriation trial for destruction, sighs erupted in various places in court.

Vice-Chairman Lee, who was being tried in a state of disability, was issued a warrant and was arrested in court. On that day, when the sentence of court arrest came out, the vice chairman, who was staring at the floor, sighed. Even when the judge said that he would give him an opportunity to make an excuse, Lee replied by saying, “I have nothing to say in particular.” There were also cries from all over the audience. After that, Vice Chairman Lee seemed to be shocked by dropping his head and staring at the floor. Vice-Chairman Lee has already been imprisoned for about a year from February 2017 to February 2018. The remaining imprisonment period is expected to reach one year and six months.

On that day, Vice Chairman Lee arrived at the Seoul Central District Court Office in Seocho-dong, Seoul at 1:41 pm. Without answering to the reporters’ questions about their feelings, they headed to the government building with a firm expression.

Earlier, vice-chairman Lee also appealed with tears in his final statement on the 30th of last month.

“This incident was a turning point in my life,” said Vice-Chairman Lee in his final statement at the time. “It was a valuable time to have time to think about what I did wrong through nearly a year of imprisonment and nearly four years of investigation.” “Before that, I thought that it was all about benchmarking advanced companies, focusing only on research and development, and growing a company, but that wasn’t enough,” he said. “I need to check and check again and review legal opinions in the soil of compliance culture, so that later, there is no problem. I found that it would ultimately benefit my business.”

At the time, he also showed tears as if overwhelmed by emotions in the scene mentioning the death of his father, Chairman Lee Kun-hee. In his statement at the time, Vice-Chairman Lee referred to’Seungeobu (exceeds his father)’ from his father’s wedding ceremony, and said, “I want to respect and respect, and filial piety to the esteemed father.”

The judiciary admitted that Vice Chairman Lee was guilty of giving a bribe of 8.58 billion won to former President Park Geun-hye and Choi Seo-won (previously renamed Choi Soon-sil) for help with the succession of the Samsung Group’s management rights.

This is in accordance with the intent of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the destruction and repatriation in October 2019. The court said, “Considering that the case trial is a revocation trial for destruction, it is recognized that there are reasons and necessity for arrest for the defendants sentenced to imprisonment, so we intend to arrest them in this court.”

Meanwhile, the trial, which started at 2:05 pm on the same day, ended around 2:24, only 20 minutes.
