(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Gyeong-yoon = Former Korean Short Track National Representative Lim Hyo-jun, 25, who recently announced that he had decided to naturalize China to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, was found to have naturalized nine months ago.

According to the official gazette announced by the Daegu Immigration and Foreigners Office on the 17th, Lim Hyo-jun acquired Chinese nationality on June 3 of last year and lost his Korean nationality.

The fact of Im Hyo-jun’s promotion of naturalization in China was first announced on the 6th.

At the time, Lim Hyo-jun’s agency explained the background of naturalization, saying, “Im Hyo-jun was unable to train due to the sexual harassment incident of same-sex juniors in June 2019, and the prolonged trial and disciplinary period of the Federation made it difficult to continue his dream of attending the Olympics. .

However, Lim Hyo-jun was naturalized after a year after the forcible harassment case broke out and was fined 3 million won in the first trial.

According to officials in the ice industry, Lim Hyo-jun has been known to have received requests for naturalization from China after the forcible harassment incident occurred.

The short-track men’s national team in China has Wu Da-jing, the world’s strongest short-range team, but the mid-long range is weak.

China decided that if it recruits Lim Hyo-jun, a 1,500m gold medalist at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, it would be possible to sweep the medals in short-to-mid-long distances along with Wu Dajing.

Im Hyo-jun ignored the Chinese love call, but decided to naturalize when the domestic situation was unfavorable.

It is known that Hyojun Lim was hesitant during the naturalization process. Even after promoting naturalization, it was in mind to restore Korean nationality.

An official on the side of Lim Hyo-jun said, “I tried to give up the promotion of naturalization in China when the domestic situation improved.”

An official of the Korea Ice Skating Federation also said, “Im Hyo-joon has been in constant contact with the Federation even after naturalizing to China in June of last year and inquired about whether or not to participate in the national competition.”

However, as a result, Im Hyo-jun gave up his Korean nationality and moved to China.

He signed a contract with the Ice Skating Federation of Hebei Province of China, not the Ice Skating Federation of China. For the time being, he plans to play as a playing coach in Hebei Province.

It is unlikely that the Chinese national team will participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

According to the Olympic Charter of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), for an athlete to change his nationality to compete in the Olympics, three years must pass after the previous international competition.

Im Hyo-jun, a Korean national athlete, has participated in the International Ice Skating Federation (ISU) World Championships on March 10, 2019, so he cannot compete in the Beijing Olympics that open on February 4 and ending on the 20th.

There is an exception clause that allows him to participate in the Olympics if the permission of the former National Olympic Committee (NOC) is given, but it is very unlikely that the University Sports Association will allow Lim Hyo-jun to participate in the Olympics.

Im Hyo-jun seems to have decided to naturalize China without being able to properly understand the regulations.
