The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) and the Korea Expressway Corporation announced on December 29 that they had built hydrogen charging stations at the Shintanjin Rest Area on the Gyeongbu Expressway (toward Seoul) and the Chuncheon Rest Area on the Jungang Expressway (toward Busan).

The two hydrogen charging stations are scheduled to be officially operated in January after completion inspection and self-test operation by Korea Gas Safety Corporation.

The hydrogen charging station to be opened this time is the first hydrogen charging station on the highway to receive government funding.

The Shintanjin and Chuncheon service stations are the first hydrogen charging stations to be built on expressways in the Chungcheong and Gangwon areas, respectively, and are expected to relieve the inconvenience of hydrogen car users moving in the area.

In particular, Chuncheon Service Area was a case in which Chuncheon City, which did not have a hydrogen charging station, paid part of the cost to build a hydrogen charging station and collaborated. It seems to be of great help.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to build 60 hydrogen charging stations at highway rest areas by 2022 to realize carbon neutrality through reduction of greenhouse gases and support the long-distance movement of hydrogen vehicles. Building

Currently, 8 hydrogen charging stations are in operation at highway rest areas, each constructed by the Road Corporation and Hyundai Motor Company, and a total of 16 additional hydrogen charging stations will be operated in 2021, including charging stations at Shintanjin and Chuncheon rest areas.

Hyeon-jong Joo, head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “We have supplied more than 10,000 hydrogen cars, but the supply of hydrogen charging stations is insufficient, so the people are experiencing inconvenience in using hydrogen cars.” We will build hydrogen charging stations on highways across the country with a sense of speed.”
