Shin Hyun-young “Corona vaccine secured in 12 major countries including the US and EU, 36% of AstraZeneca”

While the government announced that it has signed a vaccine supply contract for a novel coronavirus infection (hereinafter referred to as Corona 19), a Democratic Party member Shin Hyun-young, a member of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, revealed the current status of securing the corona 19 vaccine by major countries such as the United States, EU, and India.

According to data submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare by Rep. Shin Hyun-young, the COVID-19 vaccine obtained in 12 countries, including the United States, amounted to about 560 million doses, of which AstraZeneca vaccine was the largest with a dose of 1.85 billion (36.6%).

Following AstraZeneca, △ NovaVax 12.9 billion dose (25.4%) △ Pfizer 622 million dose (12.2%) △ Sanofi-GSK 5.3 billion dose (10.5%) △ Janssen 3.9 billion dose (7.7%) △ Modena 380 million dose (7.6%) in order.

In the United States, where Pfizer and Modena vaccines were first approved and vaccinated, Pfizer and Modena vaccines accounted for 20% of the total amount of vaccines secured. In the EU, it was 34%, and in the UK it was only 15%.

Representative Shin Hyun-young said, “The reason that the ratio of supply of Pfizer and modder vaccine is so low is that the mRNA vaccine was approved first, but there is a limit to actual production.” It is planned to be carried out through Geneca and Novabacks, and AstraZeneca has the largest amount of secured supplies,” he explained.

Rep. Shin said, “It would have been good if we had obtained Pfizer, Moder, or vaccine a little earlier, but there is a reasonable basis for the government’s judgment that secured a lot of safe vector vaccines such as AstraZeneca.” If you look at the state of securing vaccines in the country, you can see that not only Korea but also other countries are making similar judgments and preparations.”

“In the future, securing the amount of vaccine and signing a contract is important, but there are many more important issues such as △building a cold chain system and preparing an inoculation institution △determining the priority vaccination order △in case of an abnormal case, and preparing a medical response and compensation system.” When the vaccine actually enters Korea, the government as well as the opposition parties must work together to prepare conditions so that vaccination can be quickly and efficiently and stably.”
