He completed military service as a police officer during the Korean War, and graduated from Dong-A University in Busan in 1958. After that, he helped Chairman Shin Gyeok-ho into the confectionery business, but with the ramen business as an opportunity, he separated with Chairman Shin Gyeok-ho. Shin Ramyun has dominated the domestic ramen market since 1991. It is also known as’Korean ramen’ in overseas markets. In fact, Shin Ramyun’s overseas sales last year amounted to about $390 million (about 450 billion won), accounting for 40% of Nongshim’s total overseas sales.
