The late Chairman Shin Chun-ho was born in Samdong-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City in December 1930. He is the third son of five sons and five daughters of his father Shin Jin-soo and his mother, Kim Pil-soon. The first in the family is the late Lotte Group founder Shin Gyeok-ho, the honorary chairman of Lotte.
Chairman Shin Chun-ho graduated from Dong-A University in Busan in 1958 after completing military service as a police officer amid the turmoil of the Korean War. After that, he started the confectionery business by helping Chairman Gyeok-ho Shin, who was successful in Japan. Later, he broke up with Lotte and established Nongshim. Chairman Shin paid attention to ramen, which was very popular in Japan at the time. However, Chairman Shin Gyeok-ho opposed this because it was’prematurely’. Nevertheless, he entered the ramen business by starting Lotte Industrial. Since then, the conflict between the brothers has deepened, and the elder brother, Chairman Shin Gyeok-ho, eventually asks his younger brother not to use the name’Lotte’. Eventually, in 1978, the company changed its name to Nongshim. Since then, Nongshim has grown into a leading food company by releasing hit products such as Shin Ramyun and Shrimp Cracker one after another. After that, the two brothers dismissed, and the relationship between them was wide enough to hold the ancestral rites separately. However, Lotte’s honorary chairman Shin Gyeok-ho refrained from entering the ramen market and kept the gold level between the brothers.

Regarding Nongshim’s flagship ramen, Chairman Shin said, “Ramen in Korea should be a different staple food from Japan, which is a convenient food,” and said, “Ramen in Korea should be a substitute food that suits our tastes and has sufficient nutrients, so it can play a big part in solving the problem of eating. There will be.”

The brand philosophy was also firm. We believed that it must be developed with our own hands, and that the name of the product must be clear so that the characteristics can be clearly revealed. Here,’Korean taste’ was emphasized.

He was both an excellent manager and a researcher. He called himself’Ramen Manger’ and’Snackman’ and ordered the craftsmanship from the staff. It is a famous anecdote to have a separate R&D department from the beginning of the company’s establishment. Product development would have been easy if the ramen industry started to get on track at the time, but it would have been easy to develop products, but it was difficult to capture the characteristics of Nongshim, and it was because I thought that it was impossible to make products that suit the tastes of Koreans.

Even when he founded the Anseong plant in 1982, his persistence is evident. They brought in related manufacturing facilities from advanced countries, but opposed the collective introduction of turnkey methods to realize Korean taste. Although it was an advanced facility, it was because it was developed for Westerners.

He was also a brand expert. Names such as Anseongtangmyeon, which is a combination of’tang’ that appears on the ritual table, or chapaghetti, which is a combination of jajangmyeon and spaghetti, and Shrimp Cracker, inspired by the pronunciation of a young daughter, are also made in the name of a region famous for organic bowls. His representative work is also Shin Ramyun. It’s familiar now, but at the time of launch, it was an unconventional name. This was the time when most of the company names were included in products. There was no precedent in writing Chinese characters as product names. However, the anecdote that he persuaded executives that it is important to have a naming that is easy to pronounce and clearly conveys product attributes is famous.

In the end, Shin Ramyun plays a decisive role in making Nongshim No. 1 in the ramen industry. It also served as a spearhead to target the world market. Shin Ramyun generated sales of about 390 million dollars (about 450 billion won) in overseas alone last year. It is close to 40% of Nongshim’s total overseas sales.

There is no dispute over management rights, but cannot reconcile with the late honorary chairman of Lotte Shin Gyeok-ho

Unlike Lotte, Nongshim is relatively free from disputes over management rights. This is due to the fact that the succession structure was arranged by distributing the shares of the holding company in a differential manner. However, the fact that last year’s elder brother, Chairman Gyeok-ho Shin, passed away, was left unfortunate that he did not look for ills. However, Nongshim Vice Chairman Shin Dong-won and Yulchon Chemical Vice Chairman Shin Dong-yoon visited Vinso and replaced him.

Vice-Chairman Shin Chun-ho married Ms. Nak-Yang Kim in 1954 and was the third son of Shin Hyun-ju (Vice Chairman of Nongshim Planning), Shin Dong-won (Vice Chairman of Nongshim), Shin Dong-yoon (Vice Chairman of Yulchon Chemical), Shin Dong-ik (Vice Chairman of Mega Mart), and Shin Yun-kyung (wife of AMOREPACIFIC Chairman Kyung-bae Seo). I have a woman. Vinso is the 1st room of the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital. The origin is at 5 am on the 30th.
