5 years imprisonment for exploding a priest in his 20s
Use of explosives, intrusion into special housing, and threats

On the 17th, Criminal Division 11 of the Jeonju District Law (Director Dongwon Kang) sentenced Mr. A to five years in prison for four charges, including the use of explosives, invasion of special housing, damage of special property, and threats. Mr. A is accused of exploding a priestly explosive he made on the 3rd floor of an apartment in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju at around 8:5 p.m. on October 17 last year.

Mr. A learned how to manufacture explosives three years before the crime, and it turned out that there were two more spare explosives in addition to the explosives he detonated at the time of the crime. Mr. A’s stalking ended in self-destruction, but it almost resulted in a life-threatening accident. How dangerous was Mr. A’s stalking? The case was reconstructed based on the judgment of Mr. A’s first trial obtained by the JoongAng Ilbo on the 20th.

Middle school alumni… Let’s refuse to meet, stalking

According to the ruling, Mr. A is a victim woman and a middle school alumni. Mr. A’s stalking continued from September 2016. It started when the victim went to the university where the victim was attending, asked for a meeting, and was rejected.

Mr. A complained when a victim woman changed her contact information in October 2017 and could not be reached. From that time on, he learned how to make homemade explosives through Internet searches and YouTube.

A, who lived with her parents in another area, moved to the neighborhood of the victim’s house on the 7th of the same month after finding out the address and contact information of the victim through a spree in October last year. Afterwards, the prosecution decided that he decided to explode a self-made explosive if he asked for a meeting with him while looking around the victim.

On October 16 last year, Mr. A threatened to meet the victim, saying, “I will die without you,” via mobile phone and text message. Based on this, the prosecution said, “If Mr. A did not meet the victim, he threatened the victim as if it would harm the victim’s body or life or inflict pain through continuous stalking as in the past.”

Finding women’s contact information and address through the agency

Mr. A made homemade explosives at his home from October 15th to 17th last year. They used iron beads, paper cups, and chemicals with a diameter of 1 cm that were purchased through internet shopping malls and convenience stores. In the same way, two more spare explosives were made and stored.

At around 7:30 pm on the day of the crime, Mr. A visited an apartment where the victim was living with one priest’s explosive and two spare explosives. I pressed the doorbell of the victim woman’s house, but when there was no popularity, she was hiding in the emergency stairs waiting for the victim until 8:5 pm.

Then I ran into the victim’s father. Mr. A asked him, “Where is your daughter?” When the victim’s younger brother who discovered Mr. A reported it to 112, Mr. A ignited the wick of a priest’s explosive with a lighter as he ran away using the emergency stairs.

At the time, the explosion caused a metal ball inside the explosive to pop out, and the fire door, glass windows, and elevator in the apartment stairwell were broken, causing property damage worth 2.18 million won. Mr. A has physical disabilities, such as amputation of the fingers of his left hand and rupture of the eardrum.

“The police wear SOS bracelets… painful days”

As a result of the investigation, the victim woman changed her cell phone number to avoid A’s stalking. In addition, the prosecution said that after requesting the police for personal protection, he had an anxious and painful day by wearing the SOS bracelet he received from the police.

Mr. A had three explosives he made on his body at the time of the crime. The prosecution said, “If it is difficult to pass through the common front door, we even planned to detonate the common front door with one of the explosives.”

It was investigated that the explosives had considerable power, capable of seriously injuring people in the vicinity. As Mr. A did not throw explosives at other people, the victims’ families and residents were not injured.
