Kim Joon-ki (77), former chairman of the DB Group (formerly Dongbu Group), who was prosecuted in the first trial for committing sexual violence to a domestic helper and secretary was sentenced to probation from prison sentences in the second trial as well.

According to the court on the 18th, Section 1-1 of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Affairs Office (presiding judges Kim Jae-young, Song Hye-young, and Jo Jung-rae) was handed over to trial on charges of adultery and forced harassment of the supervisor. The court sentenced for two years and six months and four years probation was maintained. He was also ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and restrict employment.

The judge said, “The accused was forcibly harassing a domestic helper or secretary who followed his instructions by using his position and committed adultery. We agreed with them smoothly and did not want punishment for all of the victims, and considered the fact that the defendant acknowledged and reflected most of the facts.

Former Chairman Kim is accused of forcibly harassing housekeepers eight times at his Namyangju villa in 2016 and committing adultery once using his employer’s position. He is also accused of harassing his secretary 29 times in February-July 2017.

In 2017, former chairman Kim left Korea for disease treatment in the United States, but in September of that year, when suspicion of sexual harassment arose due to a suspicion of sexual harassment, he resigned from the group chairmanship. In January 2018, a domestic helper also sued him, and his stay in the U.S. continued to increase.

The investigative authorities saw this as a state of refuge and promoted forcible repatriation. In the end, former Chairman Kim was arrested as soon as he entered Korea in the form of voluntary return in October of last year, and was handed over to trial a month later under arrest. In the first trial, he was released from prison to avoid the sentence.
