While Andrew Cuomo, 63, the US governor of New York, was under pressure to resign due to a series of sexual scandals, foreign media began to pay attention to Cuomo’s succession. Cuomo denied his resignation again, denying allegations of sexual violence, but the Democratic Party also urged to resign, and criticism in the political world has intensified, and it seems that he has fallen into amnesty.

On the 12th (local time), the New York Times (NYT) reported an article highlighting New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Ho-cheol (63), saying that it is paying attention to whether there will be a female governor for the first time in New York State history. Ho-cheol, who has been serving as lieutenant governor since 2015, becomes the number one successor to Cuomo if Cuomo resigns himself or is impeached under New York State law. In an article titled “What You Need to Know About Hocheol,” NYT introduced that “New Yorkers are increasingly curious about Hocheol.”

According to NYT, Ho-cheol is not famous, but he is no stranger to politics. Raised by a Catholic family in western New York, Ho Cheol studied law at the American Catholic University in Washington, DC. Afterwards, he worked as a lawyer and entered politics by working as a legal adviser for several senators and congressmen. Former New York State Senator John Rapals and former Federal Senator Daniel Patrick Moinihan are examples.

Later, Ho-cheol became a full-fledged politician when he was elected to the New York House of Representatives in May 2011. He discussed job creation policies with President Barack Obama and sought ways to reduce Medicaid spending, a healthcare policy for low-income people. Governor Cuomo, who was challenged for re-election in 2014, became a lieutenant governor by divining him as a running mate.

It is analyzed that the reason the interest in Ho-cheol is in fact is that Cuomo’s political life has expired. Kuomo, who was evaluated as a hero against the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), has reduced the number of deaths in nursing homes, and is under suspicion of sexual harassment or sexual harassment of his assistants and secretaries, and is set to investigate the prosecution.
