Seoul Viosys, a company specializing in optical semiconductor devices, announced on the 6th that despite the off-peak season, it achieved the highest quarterly sales as a result of provisional sales in the first quarter.
Seoul Viosys’ sales in the first quarter reached 121.2 billion won, an increase of 39% year-on-year. After the pandemic, the sales of the UV division, which benefited from the surge in antibacterial and antiviral home appliances and automobile demand, drove sales and profitability improvement.
In particular, WICOP Chip, which has had a significant impact on the increase in sales, is a technology directly announced by Jeong-Hoon Lee, CEO of Seoul Semiconductor at the InterContinental Hotel in Shanghai, China in 2015. WICOP technology is Seoul Viosys’ chip technology that allows LED chips to be mounted on a substrate without packaging. The company’s explanation is that it is an essential core technology of mini-LEDs that cannot make mini-LEDs avoiding Wicop technology.
In addition, mass production of Micro LED pixels has begun, and sales of 25 Gigabit (Gbps) laser diode Big Cell (VCSEL) dedicated to short-range communication have also started to be supplied to three customers, leading to sales.
An official from Seoul Viosys said, “Amid the restructuring of the LED industry, where latecomers are withdrawn and become an oligopoly as a large company, the competitive environment is improving from the position of Seoul Viosys, which has already secured the 2nd generation LED technology, and high-margin WICOP sales are increasing. As it is expanding, we will achieve the highest sales this year.”
Seoul Viosys decided to purchase 10 billion won worth of treasury stock on March 19 to enhance shareholder value, and through the board of directors in March, in order to return to shareholders, the dividend payout ratio for 2020 profits per share was mid 20% in the past. It was decided to raise it to 50% and keep it for more than 3 years. In addition, Seoul Viosys has decided to disclose its provisional quarterly consolidated financial statements (sales) from 2021 to strengthen shareholder communication. In order to share information fairly with small-invested investors, sales for which early accounting is completed, such as Seoul Semiconductor, will be announced at the beginning of the following month from 2021, and profit and loss results and forecasts for the next quarter will be announced at the end of the month.
