Seoul-Seoul National University Hospital establishes'Seoul Disaster Hospital' dedicated to severe corona19 patients

[아시아경제 조인경 기자] Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital will install the’Seoul Disaster Hospital’ on the site of a comprehensive medical facility in Wonji-dong, Seocho-gu, at 11,720 square meters in order to secure a dedicated bed to quickly treat severe patients with novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). It is a method of constructing a modular facility rather than a formal building, and the installation is completed by the end of March at the latest and is expected to start operation immediately.

On the afternoon of the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced at the Seoul City Hall that it would sign a “business agreement for the establishment of Seoul Disaster Hospital,” which is based on such contents as Acting President Seo Jeong-hyup and Seoul National University Hospital Director Kim Yeon-soo.

Accordingly, 48 modular beds dedicated to severely ill patients equipped with negative pressure facilities will be built. If the number of severely ill patients decreases depending on the situation of Corona 19, these beds are converted to regular Corona 19 beds (96) and operated.

There have been cases where temporary beds have been installed on idle sites in hospitals, but this is the first time a bed has been installed exclusively for COVID-19 treatment on a separate site.

The city of Seoul provides the site required for temporary hospital installation free of charge for one year, and Seoul National University Hospital invests the necessary budget and medical staff. The site in Wonji-dong was the site where the relocation of the National Medical Center was initially discussed, and since the site use has already been designated as a comprehensive medical facility (urban planning facility), it is expected that the establishment of the Seoul Disaster Hospital will be promoted quickly.

The two organizations have been cooperating continuously in securing beds and treating patients through the’Seoul Metropolitan Disaster Medical Council’, a public-private governance for a rapid infectious disease response system. With this agreement, securing a dedicated bed for severely ill patients and strengthening intensive treatment It is expected to be.

Seo said, “By strengthening cooperation with Seoul National University Hospital, we will preemptively secure dedicated beds for severely ill patients with Corona 19, and establish a dense treatment system,” and said, “This business agreement is a public and private medical treatment that responds to national disasters such as infectious diseases. We look forward to becoming a model for system expansion.”
