An entrance fee of 300,000 won per person is provided to 140,000 freshmen at middle and high schools in Seoul.
On the 8th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will cooperate with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and 25 autonomous districts to support admission preparation funds for students entering national, public, private middle and high (higher technology), special and various schools in Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education explained that the pre-existing free school uniform policy did not match the direction of the Office of Education’s comfortable school uniform policy, and there were problems such as liberalization of school uniforms and equity support for school students.
The admission preparation fee is paid at 300,000 won per new student during this month. Each school receives the application from students or parents to support the purchase of school uniforms or to provide zero pay points. Admission preparation money can be used to purchase school uniforms, daily life clothes, gym clothes, everyday clothes, and smart devices for remote classes.
In addition, it plans to provide 300,000 won per person regardless of parents’ income, with zero pay points, which is the same method as students entering the school, to out-of-school youth entering 56 unauthorized alternative educational institutions that have been reported to Seoul.
The number of middle and high school freshmen in Seoul in the 2021 school year is estimated to be 136700. The total budget required to implement the admissions reserve is about 41.6 billion, and 50% of the Office of Education, 30% of Seoul City, and 20% of autonomous districts will be borne.
