Seoul Metropolitan Government Banned 624 Large Delinquent Payers Over 30 Million Won... Including Choi Soon-young, former Chairman Shin Dong-ah, etc.

[아시아경제 임철영 기자] It was announced on the 31st that the Seoul Metropolitan Government has banned the departure of 624 high-payers who are over 30 million won in local tax arrears as of the 30th.

The total amount of arrears for those subject to this ban on departure amounted to 117.7 billion won. The deadline for the ban on departure is until June 25th and will be extended if necessary.

The ban on departure is intended for those who are deemed to be likely to avoid disposition of arrears among those who have overdue local taxes of 30 million won (based on main tax) without justifiable reasons. According to the Immigration Control Act, the head of a local government may request a ban on departure within a six-month period, and may request an extension if it is determined that additional banning measures are necessary.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s 38 Tax Collection Division, people who are banned from departure are also included, such as Choi Soon-young, former chairman of Shin Dong-ah Group, who is living a luxurious life despite billions of won arrears.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has unified the departure ban end date on June 25 and December 21 every year from this year as there is room for a gap in the departure ban for delinquents due to the different deadlines for the departure ban for each delinquent person. I plan to do it.

An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Government explained, “With the unification of the end date of the ban on departing for nonpayers, the improvement of work has not only alleviated unnecessary work of investigators, but also made it possible to sanctions without leaking water.”

In addition, in the past, each local government has banned departure only for those with arrears of 30 million won or more. However, since this year, local tax-related laws have been amended and the total amount of arrears between the city and autonomous districts, autonomous districts, and autonomous districts is 30 million won or more. As it becomes possible, it is known that the measures will be implemented from March.

In addition to the ban on departure, the provision of credit information (more than 5 million won in arrears) and disclosure of the list of high local taxes and frequent arrears (more than 10 million won in arrears) are also taken by summing the amount of arrears in the city/autonomous district, autonomous district, or autonomous district.

Lee Byung-han, head of the Seoul Finance Bureau, said, “From this year on, due to administrative sanctions against delinquents by summing up the amount of delinquency between local governments in accordance with the improvement of the local tax law and the improvement of the city’s unified departure period for each delinquent “We will take more stringent actions against high-payers who are deliberately evading their tax obligations by imposing tighter sanctions against them.”
