The city of Seoul announced on the 22nd that it set a budget of 29 billion won as a subsidy for the purchase of hydrogen cars, and it will accept applications from the 29th.

This year, Seoul City’s subsidy is 11 million won, and 22.5 million won in national expenditure is supported, so hydrogen car buyers can receive a total of 33.5 million won.

The subsidy supported vehicle is Hyundai Nexo, a domestic hydrogen electric vehicle. The city explained that if you receive a subsidy, you can buy this car, which costs about 70 million won, for half price.

Applicants to the Seoul Metropolitan Government are individuals, corporations, organizations, and public institutions who have continued to reside in Seoul 30 days prior to the date of receipt of the application or have registered as a main office. Individuals can apply for one vehicle per person, and businesses, corporations, and organizations can apply for up to five vehicles each.

The city decided to supply a total of 863 vehicles to the private sector this year, including 388 vehicles for the first round and 475 vehicles for the second round. It is distributed in stages considering the charging infrastructure conditions, and the National Assembly charging station expansion construction is scheduled in August.

10% of the amount of support will be allocated first to the purchaser of a hydrogen vehicle after abolition of a class 5 vehicle, and to the vulnerable (disabled, national merit, independent merit, basic livelihood recipients), multi-child households, and vehicle purchasers for the first time in their lives.

In addition to subsidies, the city gives hydrogen car buyers a number of benefits such as tax reduction of up to 6.6 million won, 50% discount on public parking lot parking fees and highway tolls, and exemption from congestion tolls at Namsan Tunnel.

In order to prevent illegal supply and demand such as camouflage transfer, the subsidy will be refunded if the mandatory operating period is not observed for two years.

Subsidy applications can be made at the Ministry of Environment’s Low Pollution Vehicle Purchase Subsidy Support System (ev.or.kr). Lee Dong-ryul, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Climate Change Response Division, said, “We will continue to expand the hydrogen vehicle charging infrastructure so that citizens can use hydrogen vehicles more conveniently.”
