SK Hynix’s CEO Lee Seok-hee said that he has no plans to recover a stake invested in Gioxia (formerly Toshiba Memory) in Japan. Regarding facility investment this year, he said he would maintain the’maintenance basis’.

President Lee responded to reporters’ questions at the’Semiconductor Association President’s Conference’ held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, presided by Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yun-mo on the 9th. Amid reports that the US’s Micron and Western Digital are pursuing the acquisition of Gioxia, industry observers say that SK Hynix will recover the 4 trillion won of investment it invested in Gioxia in 2018.

However, President Lee said on the day that “the investment plan for Gioxia remains unchanged and has no intention of recovering (investment).” President Lee said, “Because of the purpose of the original investment,” he said, “There is nothing detailed about the progress, other than media articles,” he said.

When asked about this year’s investment plan, he replied, “We will maintain the remuneration stance as stated at the last shareholders’ meeting.” Recently, the semiconductor’supercycle (long-term boom)’ is in full swing, but the market is highly unstable and the M16 plant in Icheon, which was completed last month, is ahead of operation.

In addition, when asked about SK Hynix’s participation while the US White House called global companies due to the scarcity of automotive semiconductors, President Lee replied, “I know there has not been an invitation.”

Regarding that SK Hynix is negotiating a long-term supply of memory semiconductors to Bosch, the world’s number one auto parts maker, he added, “This is an issue under discussion, and there is no specific decision.”
