The investigation of allegations of land speculation by LH employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation continued today (6th). A joint government investigation team that visited the LH headquarters in Jinju, Gyeongnam and conducted a field investigation for the second day.
The investigation team finished securing basic data to identify allegations of land speculation, including employee personnel data, and began to investigate the details of land transactions in earnest.
Among government officials and LH executives and staff members of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, we started to check whether there were any land transactions in eight areas, including the planned third new city sites, such as Gwangmyeong and Siheung.
Personal information is entered into the Korea Real Estate Agency system and land transaction details are identified through a computer network, and most of the personal information agreements required for this work have been secured.
A government official said, “Up to now, about 95% of LH employees and 90% of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, including Minister Byeon Chang-heum, agreed to use personal information.”
He also said, “Considering business trips and overseas workers, we will be able to submit all consent forms by next Monday.”
After completing the investigation into the details of land transactions, the investigating team is expected to decide whether to conduct a face-to-face investigation of LH employees alleged to be speculative.
Even if the fact of the transaction is confirmed through this investigation, it is not clear whether it will lead to measures such as criminal punishment and confiscation.
Many of these were in the land compensation department at the headquarters of the metropolitan area, but they were not directly related to the designation of new cities, and the Gwangmyeong and Siheung areas were known as planned development sites for a long time.
In the midst of this, the government will hold a meeting of real estate-related ministers, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki, and announce measures to prevent recurrence.
