(Digital) “Seafood imports? Lies”…Why Myanmar protesters suspect aircraft from China?

“If the Internet is blocked again, it is because of China. (IF WE LOST INTERNET AGAIN, THIS IS BECAUSE OF CHINA)”

This is the phrase that Myanmar protesters are spreading on the Internet.

As of today, on the 7th day of the protest, the protesters’ anger is heading for China. This is when the news that Myanmar’s military regime will create a’cyber bill’ with the help of China.

Netizens are concerned that “the authorities will be able to monitor and sometimes block individual social media.” This is because social media is the main pillar of this Myanmar protest.

There are also photos on the Internet to support this concern. A Chinese aircraft standing on the runway of Yangon Airport. A suspicion was raised that a Chinese IT expert was on board. There are also photos of air cargo being transported. Some netizens claim that cargo is a weapon that supports the military. It has not been confirmed as yet.

As the suspicion grew, the Chinese embassy in Yangon said on the 10th that it was “a regular freighter loaded with seafood,” and said, “Never believe the rumors that go around.” However, with virtually all foreign aircraft landing banned after the coup, the doubts surrounding this’special Chinese aircraft’ are growing. “With no coronavirus available, Chinese seafood”…. There was even a protest in front of the Chinese embassy asking for the seafood.

Some radical netizens are saying, “If the internet is cut off again, Myanmar youth will blow up the natural pipeline from Myanmar to China.”

In fact, the antipathy of Myanmar citizens against China began shortly after the coup broke out.

China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi chose Myanmar as the first Asian country to visit this year, and he visited Myanmar just before the coup on the 27th of last month to meet Min Aung Hlaing, Supreme Commander of the Myanmar Defense Force. At this time, I doubt that there was some kind of’deal’.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) linked this meeting with China’s One-to-One Road (one-to-one road: a land-sea Silk Road that connects China-Central Asia-Europe), “China will only watch the situation in Myanmar. I’m not going to do anything.” The reality is that while on the lookout, you are helping the Myanmar military.

In fact, China, as a permanent member of the UN, has shown lukewarm reactions to sanctions at the Security Council level.

There is also an analysis that it is not only for economic benefits, but also for other benefits. US Senator Dan Sullivan pointed out that “China is focused on spreading its authoritarian model.”

However, some analyzes say that it will be difficult for China to remain behind the Myanmar crisis in the future. The US Christian Science Monitor said that the current situation in Myanmar is “contrary to the top priority of the Chinese government in pursuing security at the border and stability in Myanmar.” For China, which must check the United States and strengthen its influence in the international community, increasing confusion or the pro-US regime is the worst-case scenario.

It is a point to be observed in the future as to how China’s position will change as the Myanmar protests progress.
