On the 18th, Candidate Se-hoon Oh and National Party Candidate Ahn Cheol-soo, who are negotiating for a single candidate for the 4·7 mayor of the opposition party, failed to reach a final agreement. The unification could not be achieved until the deadline for registration of candidates who contributed in the first place (19th). The two candidates, who had been tweaking the poll system until the last minute, did not back down over the ratio of wired and wireless phone calls. The two candidates are expected to continue negotiations after completing the registration of each candidate. However, in the sense that the two candidates’ political fortune is at stake in this unification victory or defeat, pain seems inevitable.

The condition of’Including 10% of wired phones’ is ankle

On this day, the negotiation process between the two sides was urgent. After the morning meeting, Secretary-General Yang-seok Chung and Secretary-General Lee Tae-gyu of the People’s Party, who were in charge of working-level negotiations from each party, declared the breakdown of negotiations. This is because the People’s Party did not back down, saying, “Never receive,” the proposal of’including 10% wired telephones’ proposed by the people’s power in the previous day’s negotiations. However, one hour after the declaration of the breakdown of negotiations, Candidate Ahn issued an emergency statement saying “I fully accept Candidate Oh’s proposal”, and Candidate Oh answered “Welcome” and the situation seemed to reverse again.

However, this also ended with misfire. Candidate Oh’s suggestion that Candidate Ahn “we will accept” was the only suggestion to ask two opinion polling companies for their competitiveness and suitability. At the gathering of working-level workers from both sides, Candidate Oh repeatedly expressed its position that ‘10% of fixed-line telephones’ could not be yielded.

The two candidates believe that fixed-line telephones are advantageous to candidates for the strength of the people as the response of the conservative and the elderly is relatively high. Moreover, in various opinion polls that have been conducted recently, the two candidates are struggling to compete within the margin of error. This is the reason why Candidate Oh adheres to ‘10% wired phone calls’ and Candidate Ahn does not receive it.

Political luck took place… Oh-an, who couldn’t make any concessions

The reason why the two candidates, who were friendly to each other at the beginning of the negotiations, are getting fiercer toward the last minute because of the political aftermath of the unification result. As the two candidates, who initially aimed for the next presidential election, abandon them and run for mayor of Seoul this time, it is highly likely that the future political future will become more uncertain if they lose the unity. In addition, as the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) employee speculation has formed an election structure that is favorable to the opposition, it is also difficult to make concessions.

Immediately after the breakdown of negotiations on this day, the two candidates set an angle to each other. Candidate Ahn criticized Facebook, saying, “It is very regrettable that Oh seems to change words while looking at the party’s attention.” In response, Candidate Oh expressed dissatisfaction with the negotiation process, saying, “You must have seen the negotiation process in which Candidate Ahn makes an unreasonable argument.”

Although attention can be raised, concerns about halving the unification effect

Regardless of who wins, the opposition’s internal view is that delaying unification is not bad for the two candidates. If the issue of unification continues, it can catch the attention of the voters. First, it is possible to disperse the attacks of Park Young-sun and Democratic Party candidates who are in the ring.

However, as an individual candidate, it is difficult to foretell Yu and Buli. Candidate Oh can fully enjoy the convention effect (increased approval ratings after a political event) after being decided as a party runner, and Ahn can earn time until the’conservative party card’ reaches the conservative vote.

Of course, there are also concerns that the delay in the unification agreement may reduce the effect in half. An opposition official said, “If the unification agreement is delayed and the fight without concessions continues, it could lead to a non-discharge that degrades the other party.”

For this reason, it is predicted that the two candidates will achieve unification before the 25th, the start of the campaign, rather than the 28th, just before the printing of the election ballot, which was originally the second unification deadline. Both negotiators also made a voice on the same day, saying, “The effect of unification should not be halved,” and “I will find contact points within two or three days to achieve unification.”
