(New York = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kang Gun-taek = US hydrogen electric vehicle maker Nikola’s plan to develop eco-friendly’zero emissions’ garbage trucks, which is caught in a’fraud controversy’, also seems to have failed.

Nicolas announced on the 23rd (local time) that it has decided to stop collaboration with Arizona’s garbage collection and recycling company’Republic Services’ (hereinafter referred to as Republic) on the development of garbage trucks.

According to the move, the order for the Republic’s garbage truck will also be ended, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported.

Republic announced in August that it has collaborated with Nicolas to develop a’zero emissions’ truck for garbage collection and recycling, and has signed a contract to purchase from at least 2,500 to up to 5,000 garbage trucks.

However, Nikola announced on the day that “the two companies have confirmed that combining various new technologies and design concepts will require a longer development period and unexpected cost than expected.”

Nikola, known as the “second Tesla,” and booming, has been falling without wings after Hindenberg Research, a short seller (an investment method that generates profits when the stock price falls), released a report containing allegations of Nikola’s fraud. .

After the controversy over the report, Nicolas shares plunged, and founder Trevor Milton, chairman of the board, resigned.

On the 30th of last month, the automobile company General Motors (GM) canceled the acquisition of an 11% stake in Nikola and a plan to jointly develop a pickup truck, and significantly reduced the partnership agreement between the two companies to provide only the battery system and fuel cell technology to Nikola.

In the midst of this, Nikola announced on the day that it plans to start delivering the semi-truck’Tre’ to customers in the US from next year and start construction of the first commercial hydrogen fueling station.
